Word of the Year: Focus

This year I’ve been hearing the word “focus” in different conversations.

At work, there are frequent reminders to focus on goals set - reminders that we, as a company, are all working towards something.

Over recent holiday dinners, my friends have emphasized the importance of focus on storytelling (sharing history and values) - with the aim to remember the past and be present now.

During a drive, my brother said that to show more of my fun, energetic personality in posts I need to “focus on the writing and over time it will come.”

While chatting over coffee, a mentor mentioned that focus on supporting a team, reaching goals, and becoming an expert will help with reaching long term success.

The connection wasn’t clear until... one day when I was watching Shark Tank. I realized, focus is how people get “it” done. So I paused the TV and started reflecting.

Here’s what came to mind. For me, focus means being intentional while prioritizing short and long term goals.

- It means focus on reaching goals - for each and every aspect of life.

- It means focus on loving and lifting others daily.

- It means focus on growth - personally and professionally

- It means lack of focus brings confusion, uncertainty, and misguidance.

This is what focus means to me, but what does the word FOCUS mean to you? Reflect and let me know in the comments! It’d be wonderful to learn from your perspective.
